At the Magistrate’s Court to-day, Herbert Goodsir, a recent arrival troni Central Otago, on two charges ot illegally having possession oi a. total ol 11/ opossum skins, trapped in the vicinity ol Lake Kanicri, was convicted and fined £5 and costs on each charge. Bernard Luks (24), described as a drug addict, pleaded guilty at tlm Police Court to tho theft of various articles, including hypodermic syr.nges and needles, and two boxes of morphine, while a patient at tlio hospital. Ho was sentenced to reformative detention not exceeding two years, with a recommendation to the Prisons Board that he should be transierred to Waikerie.

HAMILTON, April 8. Quite unconcerned, with a .smile for everybody, a 19-year-old girl named Alary Teresa Miller, appeared at tho Alagistrate’s Court at Hamilton to-day for sentence on charges of stealing a £5 note, a georgette dress and bangles. She wns further charged with tho therfc of an attache case at New Plymouth. In asking for a remand of 1 seven days to tho last named place, Sergeant Cooper mentioned that two other charges were impending. Tho gill was sentenced to detention not exceeding 12 months at the Borstal Institute at Wellington, where, as the Alagistrate remarked, .she would bo under much-needed supervision, and whore she won’d be taught industriousness. On the other charges she was remanded to New Plymouth next Thursday. SEAAIAN’S THEFT. By Telegraph—Press Association. NEW PLYMOUTH. April 81 At tlio s.AI. Court this morning, Janies Duff, a member of tlie crew of the steamer Tasmania,, pleaded guilty to breaking and entering the shop of Hallenstoin Bros, and stealing ladies’ shoes and breaking a window valued at £l2. He was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence. MANSLAUGHTER CHARGE. By Tnlepraph—Press Association. PALMERSTON N., April 8. Herbert Mieliuei Bailey, a young man allegedly concerned in the accident on tile Rangitikei line on the evening of March 22, whereby ' Maurice Stewart G 8), subsequently succumbed to his injuries, was charged on remand .at the Police Court with negligently driving a motor cycle, thereby causing the death oli Stewart. Evidence similar to that at the inquest was given. Accused p'onded not guilty, and was committed for trial at the sitting of the .Supreme Court next month. Bail was allowed.
