AUSTRALIAN JOCKEY CLUB. AUTUMN MEETING. THIRD DAY’S RESULTS. By Cable- -Press Association—Copyright, Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Received 8.-15. p.m., April 7.) SYDNEY, April 7. The third da.y of the Australian. Jockey Club’s autumn meeting was held in showery weather. The gay colours of the early days gave place to more sorubro hues. The track was on the’soft side. Valicare’s seventli win in seven starts, brought a great ovation from a crowd of forty thousand. Munro rode a well-judged race. He kept Valicare close up to Topgallant, who was leading, till entering the straight, when he forged ahead to win by a length. The Night Patrol was lying last early but gradually crept up to Topgallant, wlio had to fight hard to retain second place.
On the report of the veterinary surgeons that the disease from which Royal Tea was suffering had been reduced to a minimum of infection, lie was allowed to take liis place in the Champagne Stakes. Rampion ran a remarkable race in this event. He was well back early,'and came up, but was twice knocked back entering the straight. Ho showed a great burst of speed a few lengths from home, and won by half a length. Royal Tea made a good showing, and looked a certain winner till just near the post. Heroic stole a march on Windbag, when he passed him before entering the straight. Windbag was unable to make up the lost, ground. • It was a very popular victory. Results : SECOND HUR DLES, of 750 sovs; 3 miles.—Jupiter 10.9, I: Les Paddington 11.7, 2; Bungarley 9.2, 3. Thirteen
started. Double Escape and Bay Laddie led most, of the way. Les Paddington was always handy. Jupiter came with a .strong run up the straight and won fairly, easily by lour lengths’. Time, 4min 27j[sec. ALL-AG ED STAKES, of 3000 sovs; 1 mile. —-Valicare (Munro) 1, Topgallant (Bracken) 2, Thu Night Patrol (Young) .3. Also ran —Metellus, Fuji Sau. Erum an excellent start Topgallant went to the front followed closely by Valicare, Metellus, Fuji Sau and The Night' Patrol last. The leaders were three lengths ahead at the four furlongs past, with The Night Patrol creeping, up. Valicare showed the way into the .straight.' In an exciting finish Valicare had a length to •spare passing the post. The Night Patrol and Topgallant had a hard fight for second place, the latter gaining the verdict by a short neck. Time, lmm 403 sec.
COOGEE HANDICAP, of 1000 sovs ; ,9 furlongs.—Clm’der 0.7, 1; Wedding Eve 7.3, 2: Jimmie B. 8.1, 3. Fifteen started. Chalder was always handy, and jnoved_ up at the top of the straight. Won by three, and a half long tbs. Time, lmin 55Jsoc. CHAMPAGNE STAKES, of 3000 sovs; 0 furlongs.—Rampion 9.(3. 1; Cromwell 8.10, 2; Royal Tea • 8.7, 3. Fourteen started. Calmest, Aeneid and Switzerland made the early running. Calmest Jed into the straight, then came Royal Tea, Switzerland, Cyden, Cromwell. Royal Tea looked a winner a few length.'; from the post, but Rampion came up fast on the outside and won by half a length. Royal Tea was half a length behind Cromwell. Time, lmin 163 see. CUMBERLAND STAKES, of 2000 sovs; 1-1 miles.—Heroic (Cairns) 1, Windbag (Munro) 2, Pilliewinkie (Aloung) 3. Also ran—David. Passing the stand, David led from Pilliewinkie, Windbag and Heroic. That order was maintained till leaving the back, when 1 Heroic moved up, followed bv Windbag. Pilliewinkie led into the straight. Windbag made a great' attempt to
catch Heroic, but .was unable to get within a length and a half of him. : PilJicwinkie was two lengths behind "Windbag.
