OPENING OF KIRKPATRICK INSTITUTE. By T«l«(rapb —Praia Association. i , , NELSON. April- 6. Ihe Kirkpatrick Masonio Institute formerly the residence of the late , Mr S. Kirkpatrick, was officially opened by n '' '-i ! x i '' o thc“r Jessy Steer, District Grand Master for Westland and Nelson (E.G.), chairman of th e Board of Governors, in the presence of a iarge and representative attendance of the Masonic fraternity. Mr Steer explained that, by the terms of the will of the late Brother Samuel Kirkpatrick, the home was founded on tlie lines of tile Royal Masonic Institute for Girls in England. “The Masonic order,” he K said, “is not a friendly society or a benevolent or Veritable institution, hut it unfortunately happens that death leaves children fatherless in more or less precarious and destitute circumstances. Brother . Kirkpatrick, realising this, and witli .the liberal hospitality which has characterised his actions to those dependent oil him and those in his employ, Ims left the residue of his estate, approximately £50,000, together with his beautiful home, with its pleasant surroundings, for the housing and education for girls who may bo left in this unfortunate position.’?, .
