(From Our Own Correspondent.); OBITUARY. MR ARCHIBALD McNAUGHT. There passed away at his residence, Springfield Road, Temuka, a very old and respected resident in the person of Mr Archibald AlcNaught, at the ago of SI years. The late Air AlcNaught was born in Alexandria, Bonliill, Scotland, and prior to leaving home he assisted his father on the farm, where he ucquired much usofult information in general farm work, making a speciality of sheep shearing. In 18 < 6 Air and Al'rs AlcNaught arrived in New Zealand, and' Air AlcNaught found employment as sliepherd at Springfield. Later he was employed in a similar capacity at Alethvon and Tinwald, and finally as head shepherd with Air J. Studholme, at Coldstream. About 14 years ago lie retired and came to Temuka, where lie has resided ever since. Although lie took no active part in public affairs, ho took a very keen interest ill everything appertaining to the welfare of the country. Ho Was a fine type of Scotsman, and his genial disposition lriado him a favourite ■ with all who know him. The late Mr AlcNaught, who whs predoceasod by ;>his • wifo two years ago, leaves ono son (Mr J. AlcNanght, Wellington), and two daughters (Airs F. Tarbotton and Aliss AlcNaught). The yardings in all classes at the Temuka stock sale yesterday were larger than usual, hut , the, prices for sheep fell off a point or two from those ruling at the previous sale. The sale for stores was dull and dragging. Fat cattle sold; well at improved rates, and there was a good demand for pigs. PERSONAL. slr W. Baxter, of Ormsville, who has been appoirttod Postmaster at Temuka, is expected to arrivo on Saturday, and will take up his tiew duties on Alonday. Mr J. Harrison, of the local start’ has been temporarily carrying out tiio duties of postmaster since the position became vacant foul- months ago; NOTES. The Temuka Bowling Club will officially dose the season this afternoon with' a drawing, driving and trailing competition, to which all bowlers are invited.
