FATAL MOTORING ACCIDENT. By Teleuraph—Press -Association. INVERCARGILL, April 6. A shocking motoring accident occurred this afternoon, when a sixcylinder ear, owned and driven by 31r Thomas Price, of Br-nmore, overturned about one and a half miles south of Dipton. There were two other occupants—Messrs Alexander McKenzie, of Invercargill, and John Murphy,_ of Fernhills. 31 r McKenzie was killed, it is believed, almost instantaneously, and 3lr Price was admitted to the Southland Hospital suffering from extensive injuries to the-head, his condition being grave. Mr Murphy was able to return to his home at I'ernlnlls, liis injuries being of a minor nature. Details of the accident are very meagre, there being nobody in the vicinity at tho time. A3VKWARD PREDTCA3IENT OF TOURING PARTY. CAR GOES UP IN FLAMES! By Telegraph—Press Association. NEW PLYMOUTH, April 6. An Auckland party, returning from a trip to Taranaki, met with an accident at Mount Messenger this afternoon, and it resulted in the loss, by fire, of a ear, and the narrow escape of the driver (Mr 8. Ringer). The party were in a big touring car, anil on climbing one of the steep sections of the New Plymouth side of the mountain, Humes were seen issuing front the car. Two ol the occupants, Messrs L. Hardly, owner, and F. Reid, jumped out to endeavour to suppress the flames. Tho driver put on tho emergency brake, which, however, would not hold, and the ear started to mi clown hill and over tlio side. Jho driver managed to jump clear, and tho car went hurtling down to the bottom of the vnllov, a sheer drop of 200 feet. With it went all the luggage, which was consumed in the fire that completely destroyed the car. The party lmd a narrow escape, foil had they hot got out in time, they would have been dashed to death. The party were- atterwards brought into town by a service bus.
