MOTOR NUMBER PLATES.
DELAY IN ISSUE,
AVAILABLE AT EM) OF MONTH. Under the Motor Vehicles Act the number plates on vehicles throughout the Dominion should have been replaced at the beginning of the present month. The new plates, coloured black and white instead of green and white, however, are not yet available, and as it is not expected that they will be to hand before the end of the month, re-licensing ■ for the ensuing period has not yet been commenced.
In the case of new cars registratioti is being effected by, supplying the old green and white plates, but as soon as the others are to hand they will be replaced free of charge. The green and rvhite plates of last year, which cost the motorist 2s a pair, were manufactured in America. The delay this year is due to the inability of the Wellington contractor to produce the plates in time. An increase in the price of' the plates has also been made, a pair this year costing 2/G. In addition to the re-licensing of the cars, which is fixed at £2, it !• also necessary to secure a driver’s license for the period 1926-27, the old licenses, irrespective of when issued, expiring on April 1. Renewal of driving licenses is being effected at the Borough ' Council Chambers, Tiinaru, or at the offices of the various local bodies throughout the district, while the re-licensing of cars (when Che new number plates come to hand) will lie effected at the Post Offices in the various districts.
