Unly one of the doubles was won, Andrews and Wilson beating Crouch ami Sproule in a stern struggle which showed tin, local players to greater advantage in overhead work a|iid general combined p. ay. Errors, however, gave the New Zealanders opportunities which were eagerly accepted. Andrews again impressed by his clean ground work and style, and generally' impressed critics as a prospective champion, provided he is afforded opportunities for development in the highest grades, especially smashing, wherein at present lie m weak.
France, in the singles, showed good court craft, though in the doubles he was frequently found out of position, besides lacking in anti.cilpation m . a lies. Smyth and Seay were the next best among, the visitors, all of whom indulged in speed and hard driving, though patchy in places, as a result ol tiring from the heat. Andrews, .shaping like an artist against Crawford, led live love at one stage, and won 0-1, 6-1, mainly by hal'd driving. Wallace expended all his energy in the game in his effort against • difiicu ties, but lost to Crouch who was unable to go wrong, while Wilson, despite the heat, annexed two sets. 0. Sproules won in a contest which see-sawed to the finish.
