ANNUAL MEETING. Tho annual mooting of Canterbury District A.O.F. rvas bold at Morvon, members from each of th four Courts in the district attending in large numbers. The weie met and heartily welcomed by the local brethren, and at.B o’clock business was proceeded with. The following courts were represented : Southern-Cross 3123, Foresters Pride 6073 Progress 673., and Star of AVaihao (929. The chair was taken by Bro. »• E. Marshall, D.C.R., Bros. Dickson, p D C It. and E. Hav falling the positions of D.S.C.R. and D-B. respectively. Bros J. T. Ellis (district treasurer) and A. Jones (district secretary) were also wore presented for the following delegates Court hmaru, Bros. J. Ghddon,-T. C. Balcei, and K. S. Griffiths, P.D.C.lt.’s; Court 0073 Waimate, Bros AV. F. George and T T Mills, P.C.R.s; Court 6(32 bt. Andrews Bros. E Dix, P.p.C E. aM W. Annett, P.C.R.; Court 7929 Moiven, Bros. C. Dickson, P.D.C.R., and J. W. Woods, P.C.R. . .. After the minutes of the lialf-yeaily meeting had been read and confirmed, an immense amount of corrcspondenc was dealt with, the inward uicludmg a telegram from Bro. Thos. Webb, Grand Master 1.0.0. F., ’ ing fraternal greetings and best wishes for a successful meeting. f Tho financial position of the distiict was then discussed. This d'sclosed the fact that mortality claims for-the-past two or three years had made heavy i roads on tho •• funds, and.that tlio con tributions to tho, district -for fpnfiral benefits had not been sufficient to meet S, Griffith, J. T.-EHn, T C Baker and C. Dickson, also members of the various Courts, spoke at length on the subject, some urging the abolition of- the district body; others the increase of 1 Courts contributions to the funeral fund, 'instancing .the tact that Eoresters pay im far less to that fund than any other Society. Finally it was resolved that the secretary write to the Registrar ox Friendly Societies for information. Figures revealed the fact that Courts during the year had paid out f°r sj. ck pay about £750, for funeral pay £2po, and claims for maternity £202, showing the wisdom of in providing for cases of emergency, and fully Justifying tho existence of Friendly bocieties. . Officers for the ensuing year weio invested and installed by the D.C.R. Bro. Marshall as follows: —C. L. Tubb, D.C.R.; S. A. Odell, D. 8.; J. T. Ellis, treasurer; and A. Jones, secretary, W. B. Ramsay, D.S.C.R., elect being ab ßro." Tubb thanked members for the honour conferred, and hoped he would prove worthy of the confidence placed m dn n the motion of Bros. J. Gliddou and T. C. Baker, P.D.C.R. a, it was resolved that the retiring D.C.R. be presented with a P.D.G.R. certificat and collar, and that his name be engraved o litlio clinin of office. 6 Bro. R. S. Griffiths, P.D.C.R., then made the presentation, and m the course of Ins remarks praised the good work of Bro. Marshall, and ex pressed tho hope that the recipient would appreciate the gifts, more to what they represented than their monetary value. . , „ Bro. Marshall, in reply, thanked all sincerely for the gifts and. kind woids expressed, which, he said, would always remind him of his duty, and if possible he would increase his efforts in the cause of Forestry. Accounts amounting to £lb 12s lUrt wore passed for payment, and the newly-installed D.C.R. closed the meeting in tho usual impressive manner. After refreshments, liberally provided by the Morven brethren, had been partaken of, and a social half hour spent, the locnl brethren were thanked for their generous hospitality, and tho singing of “Auld Lang Syne” brought a most instructive and enjoyable meeting to a close.
