Mrs Maud Mary Shannon, who fell from her bedroom window on the third storey o r the Waitemnta Hotel on Sunday morning and was killed, was a few minutes earlier talking to a boarder. While inspecting shingle works on the AVainiakariri river on Sunday, three men were horrified to see a. human skull protruding out of the shingle. The body was discovered to be that of Joseph McKay, farmer, who was drowned 011 August .7 of last year. An oilskin coat was on the body and a sack round the lower part. Practically only the ske’eton was left. DEATH OF A VISITOR. By Teleernnli—Vress Association. CHRISTCHURCH, April 5. An inquest was opened to-day on the body of Edgar Clarke, described as an auctioneer, and a councillor of St. Ivilda, Melbourne, who was found on the river hank on Saturday. Ho had his wrist deeply cut. Deceased arrived at Christchurch on March 26, and remained in bed at his hotel for four days on account of illness. One witness described him as a bundle of nerves. Clarke was admitted to lios- I pital, but collapsed before an opera- j lion could he performed. The inquest was adjourned sine die.
