CUT HIS THROAT. B j Telesrraph—Pros® Atsociatlon. INVERCARGILL, April 4. A single man named Arthur Calder, wharf labourer, Bluff,' cut his throat with a razor. The police found him shortly after mid-day and called in Dr. Torrance, who attended to him and ordered liis removal to the Southland Hospital. MOTOR-CYCLE ACCIDENT. By Telegraph—Press Association. NELSON, April 4. Oliver Chappell, of Puponga, aged five, got his foot caught in tne spokes „f, ihe wheel, when; riding behind his brother on, a motor-cycle. He was taken to hospital, when half the foot was amputated. SHEPHERD DROWNED. By Taleerapli—'Pre*ji Association OAMARU, April 4. "While crossing the Dobson River, seventy miles beyond Jvurow, on Wednesday last, a shepherd named Charles William Morgan, aged 29, was washed off his horse- and drowned. The river was slightly in flood at thp time, and it is believed that ho received a kick, from his liorso which rendered him incapab'e of saving himself. Deceased, who was a splendid horseman and ah excellent swimmer, saved a man from drowning two months ago. By Teleffrapli—Press .a ssccialion. AUCKLAND, April 4. A fatal accident occurred at Waitemata Hotel this morning when Maud Mary Shannon, aged about 44 years, fell from a window at tbe hotel and was dead when picked up. Deceased was married with a grown up family, and was a housemaid at the hotel. BUS ACCIDENT. By Telegraph—Press Association. DUNEDIN, April 4. A bus, owned by Robert Edie (Dunedin), met with a mishap on the road to Waipori to-day. When about a mile from Berwick, a tyre burst, and the bus was thrown off the road and collided with a telegraph post. Edie suffered three, broken ribs, and internal injuries, and two passengers—Mrs Jane Heron (of Oamaru) and Miss Edith Day (of Dunedin) suffered fractures of the arm and a fractured wrist, respectively. All three were admitted to hospital. DEATH FROM TETANUS. By Telegraph—Press Association. AUCKLAND, April 3. The death occurred in hospital on Thursday of Mr Joseph Mormon Cassie, who was chief engineer at the Chelsea tjugar Refinery, from tetanus, the result of an injury on March 16, when lie was thrown from a gig through the horse falling. He. sustained, deep cuts on the left elbow and knee. CHILD’S DEATH. By Telegraph—Press Association. TE KUITI, April 3. A child, cme-year-oiu, the son of Mr H. C. Amundsen, bushman, Kopaki, was badly s ca ‘ded on Thursday evening, as a result of which it died on Friday evening. Three children were sitting in front of a log fire, on which a kettle had been placed. The log rolled, and the contents of the boiling kettle were precipated over the child, who was badly scalded from the waist downward. Owing to the state of the roads the parents had to wait at the Kopaki station with the injured child from 7 to TO to catch the train, a moior far not being able to got through to To Tvu li. At the inquest the verdict was that death, was caused by shock through scalds.
