TENNIS TEAM IN SYDNEY.

Success In Opening Match. GOOD IMPRESSION AGAINST COLTS. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. AUfttrr.i&n anil N.Z. Cable Association (Received April 4, 6.5 p.m.) SYDNEY, April 3. The New Zealand tennis team created a favourable impression in riie opening matches of the tour against the New South Wales Colts, sweeping the boards in the singles by sis rubbers to nil, and scoring three rubbers to two in the doubles. Following is the tally: Singles.

The ground, though a trifle slow, ns tho result of recent rains, possessed no terrors for the visitors. Seay impressed tho critics by his left-handed display, his disconcerting forehand drive repeatedly finding Hopman out of position. Wallace and Wilson gave an excellent all round court exhibition, iho latter keeping his opponent • always on the tiptoe of expectancy. Andrews arid Sriiyth both won easYy, and indicated that they would give something superior when pitted against tho State’s best next Friday. Andrews especially revealed glimpses of speed and versatility calculated to place him among the first fligliters when developed by conflict with die star’s of the tennis firmament. France, though not altogether faultless, was sound and reliable in each of his contests. Summed up, the visitors’ first impression was good, their service fast, and returns good. They drovo with force and exercised good judgment in placing. Superior combination by tho local team explains the reverses in the doubles, which right till nightfall were brimful of interest to a small crowd not claimed by the show or the races.
