FATAL FIRE.
COFFEE PALACE DESTROYED. THREE LIVES LOST. By Cable—Pres* Association—Copyrljnt. Australian and N.Z. ‘Cable Association (Received April' 4, 5.5 p.m.) SYDNEY, April 4. The coffee palace at Valclia caught fire- early this ' morning. Twenty boarders were entrapped by flames which speedily raged from end to end of the' building. After a desperate struggle all except three escaped, namely: H. Callan J. Hall, ■ A. Watson. ■ These boarders were unable to reach the exit, and were burned to death. Mrs Shallahcr and Michael Solomons both jumped from windows and were Seriously injured.
The building, which was constructed of wood, was demolished. The cause cl the outbreak is unknown.

Details of the AValeha Coffee Palace fire .show that there were twelve lodgers in the building at the time of the outbreak.
It is surmised that the vicliins became confused in the smoke and were unable to find an exit, as one of them occupied a room on the ground floor, and only had to step through a window to safety.
