ADDINGTON MARKET. EASING TENDENCY. By Telegraph—Tress Association, CHRISTCHURCH, March 31.. At AdtLmgtou to-day tficro was again a heavy entry of most chesses of Stock, but on account of tho holiday and the suspension.of killing operations at tho abattoir, tho demand from butchers was restricted, and tliero was a tendency towards easier values. Store Sheep.—Another heavy entry was yardod, North Island ewes predominating. They were down from 13 to 2s per head on last week. lor torward lambs there was veiy brisk competition, at an advance on late rates, ewe lambs being in very keen demand. Rape lambs realised 22s to 2os, medium lambs 19s 6d to 21s Gd, small h» Gd, to 19s, inferior 15s to 17s, good halfbred ewe lambs to 28s 9d, -ordinary half-bred ewo Jambs 24s to Ms ba, crossbred ewe lambs 23s Gd to 2os. twotooth 2-bred ewes 29s to 325, cull twotootli ;]-bred ewes 24s to 275, ordinary 4, 6 and 8-tootli crossbred ewes 2os to 295, four and five year old crossbred ewes 20s to 225, four and five year old crossbred ewes (local) 24s to 295, four and five year old halfbred ewes 25s to 30s, failing mouth halfbred ewes 19s ou to 23s 9d, good forward 4, 6 and 8-tooth halfbred wctlicrs 2/s to 28s lOd, four, six and eight-tooth wethers 23s 6d to 25s 9d, two-tooth halfbred wctliors 21s to 255, two-tooth crossbred wether's 22s 6d to 245. _ Fat Lambs. —There was a small entry of 2500 head, ■ which sold at the maximum export values. Prime medium weight iambs made a shade over lOd a lb. Extra prime brought 32s 6d to 34s 4d, prime heavy 29s Gd to 325, medium 28s to 30s, light and inferior 25s Gd to 27s Gd, store lambs 22s to 245. Fat Sheep.—The market opened.very firmly at an advance on last week, hut once tlie butchers’ requirements were met, competition .eased. Exporters bought freely over tho later stages of the sale, when values were back by Is Gd a head. Extra prime wethers made to 39s 4d, prime wethers 32s to 355, medium wethers 28s Gd to 31s 6d; extra prime ewes to 30s 4d, prime ewes -4s Gd to 28s, medium ewes 21s to 245. Fat Cattle—A .smaller entry of 430 was penned, but generally there was an easing of up to 20s per head for all classes except prime medium weights. A North Island line of 55 averaged £l2 17s Gd. Best beef mado from 37s Gel to 41s per lOOlbs, heavy 31s Gd to 3/s, medium 31s Gd to 345. Vealers. —A veiy slack sale was recorded, duo to the heavy tntiy. Runners sold up to £5 12s 6d. _ Store cattle wore a drab lot. Best cows realised up to £4. _ Dairy cattle mot a good sale. Rest cows £9 to £l3 10s, others £3 10s to £8 10s; best heifers £9 17s 6d to £l4, others £2 10s to £8 10s. Fat Pigs.—A largo entiy was submitted. Baconers made last woo v 3 prices, but porkers were easier. Choppers £3 10s to £7 7s, baconers £4 to £G 13s (average per lb BJd to 9Jd). porkers 50s to 73s (average 9d to 9£d). Storo Pigs.—A largo entiy was responsible for easier prices. \v eaners brought 6s to 12s Qd, slips los to 235; small stores 25s to 30s, larger stores 33s to 555.
BURNSIDE STOCK SALE. SHEEP AND LAMBS DEARER. By Telegraph—Press Association. DUNEDIN, March 31. All classes of stock, with the exception of sheep and lambs, eased in pi ice at Burnside to-day. Fat cattle. —There was a short yarding of 179 head, compared with 3GO last week. The quality was from fail to medium. There were a few pons of prime lioifers which sold at very satisfactory prices. Prime liandyweight bullocks sold at from 40s to 4-s Gd per lOOlbs, prime heavyweight ox and medium quality ox to 40s, prime heifer from 32s Gd to 355, and cow beef from 22s Gd to 2os per lOOlbs. Ruling rates were:—Prime heifers £9 10s to £l3, medium £6 10s to £9, lighter £5 to £6; prime heavy bullocks £IG 10s to £lßs 10d, medium £l3 10s to £l4 10s, lighter £9 to £ll 10s. Fat sheep.—An entry of 1447 was composed'chiefly of wethers, though thero was a fair sprinkling of ewes. The quality was fairly good. Wethers roso in price l from 3s to 4s per head, while owes went up by from Is to Is 6d. The increases wero doubtless duo to tho small yarding, compared with 2540 last week. Prime handyweight wetlicrs sold at up to s}d per lb, extra primo wethers to sd, prime heavy ewes 4d, light weight primo owes 4£d, old owes 31 d. Primo heavy wetlicrs made from 33s to 40s Gd, medium lrom 30s to 335, lighter to 28s; prime owes realised from 29s Gd to about 31s 3d, medium from 27s to 295, mid light down to 23s Gd. Lambs. —Tliero was a mixed yardmg of 547, compared with 1184 last week. ’Hie small entry included animals from inferior to very prime, and an all-round advanco of about Is per head was recorded. Heavy lambs brought from 29s Gd, medium 27s to 295, and light down to 23s Gd. Primo lamb was worth from 9£d to IOJd per lb. Store cattle. —A yarding of 289 was composed mainly of cows and lieifors, with a few pens of good tlireo-year-old bullocks. The bullocks realised from £3 10s to £ll 5s per head. Pigs —An entry of 111 fats and 104 stores was forward. Baconers were easier by about 10s, while porkers v, ei e about ou a parity with last week s rates. Stores cheapened from 3s to about 5s per head. Baconers sold at from B£d to 9|d per lb, and porkers in the vicinity of 9d lb. DAIRY CONTROL BOARD. DUNEDIN, March 31. The New Zealand Dafr.v Produce Control Board has accepted the offer of the South Island Dairy Association to do tho whole of tho Board’s work in three centres, namely, Dunedin, Bluff, and Lyttelton. A sub-committee of the Board, which was appointed to investigate into this mattcji-, Reported recommending the acceptance of tho offer, as it showed a very considerable saving to the Board compared l with the estimated cost of establishing separate offices. Briefly, the work will include attending'to all shipping, insurance, advances to factories, draffs, advances against storo warrants, chocking of all documents, keeping all lhcords rciKiircd bv the Board, and all other work incidental to the above, together with submitting to tho head office of tho Board in "Wellington all returns as required as from August Ist, 192 G.
