The colliery engine-drivers on the Newcastle coalfield have sent an' ultimatum to the proprietors that if the latter do not grant a conference within seven days, to discuss a number of the men’s grievances, they will cease work.

This means a general stoppage of all collieries in the State, involving thousands of employees.
