National, which was run at Aintreo to-day, resulted : Jack Horner 1 Old Tuv Bridge 2 Bright’s Boy 3 Thirty started. Won by three lengths. A fortnight ago, the Hon. Kenneth McKay, heir to' Lord Inchcape, sold Jack Horner to Air C. Schwartz, a New York merchant, who had taken a violent fancy to steeplechasing, and was determined’some day to win the Grand National. He gave £4OOO for Jack Horner, and an additional £2OOO conditional upon his winning tho Grand National. Critics class the race ns in every way tho best Grand National for many years, it was a good race throughout. Nineteen out of thirty starters finished tile first round of the course, and fourteen completed the raceCasualties among the . riders were severe. The rider of Koko suffered concussion. Lone Hand’s rider broke an arm, and another had a thigh lacerated by his horse jumping on him.

NOTES ON THE RACING. In th a Improvers’ Handicap, All Fours led for I lie major part- ol the distance. In the final stages Steel 'Aire got in front and stayed there. Jii the Beach Haudieap Direct Tod was in the lead, with Lunsda e next, for some distance. Half a mile from home Shine Soon came away, and iron with something in hand. Ariki also came with a rattle and ran into third place. In th.o Kaitoke Handicap, Harold Grattan, a local horse, led from start to finish. Aioiiy Audubon and Some, Jazz slowly improved their positions, but could not get near Haro’d Grattan, who won by several lengths pulling up. Some Jazz broke badly at tho finish. The Armstrong Handicap was another good race. Talent and Native Chief lost ground at the start. Cardinal Logan, Becky Logan and Judge Hancock were prominent throughout. Fashion Queen also came into view tor a period. The winner, finishing strongly, won by three lengths. Doctor Dillon was six lengths away, and just beat Judge Hancock for third p'acc. In the. Members’ Handicap (saddle), the hack mark horses were among tho others when half tho distance had been covered. Cora Tacks vas in the lead for most of the way, but in the eoneluding stages Firpo cut down all opposition and finished two good lengths ahead of Bonn. Shine Soon just beating Cora Tacks for thir l place. The AVinehester mare Bonny Spec, and Master Ando came away from the others in the High Class Handicap, the former heading the field for a mile. Then Master Ando trotted to the front, hut Bonny Slice again displaced him. Betty Aloko and John Mauritius came strongly in the last couple of iur ongs, and in a great- finish, Betty Aloko almost got up, while John Mauritius nppearod to be in line with Bonny Spec. The judge gave Bonny Spec the verdict by half a neck, though evidently many thought Betty Atoka luhl won. In the Belmont Handicap the hackmark horses soon .‘line into tile limelight. In tlie concluding stages Znlock Palm beat A 7 ni> Rich by a length, with ALibon’s Day . two lengths behind. In the final race, of tiie day All Roll and • Petcrwah wore well supported.
