WEST LXD DEFEAT TEMUKA, After holding the Bristol Cup for: tin; greater part of tile .season, 'i emuka had to■accept defeat on Saturday at the hands of tlie West End Club. 'The weather was ideal, and tlu: number of ladies present was indicative of the growing interest of the fairer sox-in the game. The match was keenly contested throughout, and although West Laid led all the way, Temuka nere always within striking distance. On the seventh head, West Lind had a margin of 1C points, hut this Mas reduced to 9 on the fourteenth head. West End, however, maintained their reputation of being strong finishers, and every link, with the exception of Sampson's, won on the last head, scoring a total of .15 points. Xicol had the biggest victory of the day, defeating Fraser’s rink hv .17 to ■!. Smith (Temuka) maintained iiis unbroken aeries of victories in the Bristol Cup, and his winning margins in the live matches have . been 12, L 5, 25, 22 and 12, a total of 81 points, and a performance which he can well 'he proud of. Five, of the West ICnd rinks Mere successful, and won the cup h.v a margin of ill points. . In presenting the cup to the winners, .Mr J. B. Sinclair, president of tlie. 'Temuka Club, congratulated the West Laid Club on their performance. He did not begrudge them their victory, but as Temuka bad held the cup so long, lie Mould have iiked to have retained it for the remainder ot the season.
