NEW BISHOP.
ENTHRONING CEREMONY. Over twelve hundred people thronged the Christchurch Cathedral on Wednesday, when the enthronement of the lit. llev. Campbell West-Watson as Bishop of Christchurch was celebrated. A very largo crowd of peop.e, unable to obtain admission to tlio Cathedral, waited outside to see the procession troop in, a cordon ot cadets from Christ’s College surrounding the enclosure. The service was most impressive, the choir entering iirsL, followed by -bo Cathedral Chapter, eighty clergy, including the Rev. Jasper Smythc, who was on© of the late Bishop Harper's helpers, taking part. The Bishop of Dunedin was also present. The Bishopelect came last, accompanied by the . Chancellor, the Vergers closing the gates upon him. The Very Rev. the Dean then called on the Chancellor (Mr H. D. Andrews) to read documents testifying to the consecration and election of the Bishop, and tho confirmation of the said election by the Standing Committees of the several Djoccses. These documents having'been read, the Bishop Elect recited the'Oath of Allegiance to the Primate and Archbishop of New Zealand. The Doan and Chance.lor then led the 1 , Bishop lip to the Episcopal clmir, tho ■service continuing after the enthronement with prayers offered by the Dean and the Precentor (Rev. Hubert Jones).
. The Benedictus, and tho Creed and Versicles next followed, after which the choir sang tho anthem “Blessed bo the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. ’’
