Further heavy rain in the basins of the Hunter, Hawkeslniry, Macquarie and Castlereagh rivers threaten serious floods. At Maitland, the Hunter is rising steadily. Men are employed stacking sandbags in an endeavour to prevent the flood waters reaching the town. Should they fail, one of the most disastrous floods on the record of the district is anticipated. From other parts of the country reports state that all rivers are steadily rising. Terrific seas are running along the coast, and to-day the harbour ferry service to Manly is suspended. Many ferry steamers are badly battered, and several largo overseas steamers have sent wireless messages that they are hove-to off the Sydney heads, as they are unable to enter owing to the terrific seas running between the heads. All coastal vessels are sheltering. A number of yachts in the 'harbour broke their moorings, and were wrecked.

Timely warnings enabled fanners to get clear with their effects. In Sydney over 5 inches of rain fell in 36 hours. The deluge still continues. The wind during the night readied a velocity cf 50 miles per hour and did minor damage.

It is reported from Mnequarrie. that the river has broken its hanks at several places between Dulibo and Wellington and is still rising.
