Eighty passengers, the captain, and first and second engineers of tho Brazilian river .steamer l’oes Re Carvallo, perished when the vessel sank following an explosion on Solimucs river, one of the upper forks of the Amazon. Seventy-ciglvt passengers and several members of the crew were rescued.
