annual carnival. On Monday evening a mooting was held in the Public Hall to consider the holding of the annual carnival. Mr J. Donohue presided. After discussion, it was decided to hold the—carnival on Thursday, April 15. It was agreed-that as far as possible, the carnival should" be self-sup-porting, and that after the event a small sum should be left in hand for the running of future carnivals. Mr J. Donohue was re-eloctcd chairman of the general committee, with Mr Alex Mackie as secretary; The programme, was discussed at length, and members were appointed tp.tako charge of tho various events. It was arranged that sub-committees should make their reports and that details should be completed at the next meeting, on March .31. SWIMMING. Recently swimming tests, for certificates awarded by the New Zealand Swimming Association, were held at the Orari river, mouth, with the following results: — Certificate of merit (1 mile). —1 hyllis Arscott, Constance Grant, Roland Davis, Cyril Ronclme. Certificate of proficiency (220 yards) —Phyllis Arscott, Constance Grant, Cyril Donohue, Andrew Grant, Alan Arscott, James Neville. Learners’ certificate (50 yards).— Beverley Arscott, Lucy Campbell, Alan Arscott, Corne'ius Nolan. After the contests the children wore entertained to afternoon tea by their parents and friends.
