BOWLING NOTES.

(By “Pavilion.”) SATURDAY, MARCH 27, BRISTOL CUP. Temuka v. West Etui, at Temuka 2.30 p.m. The seventh match for the Bristol Cup will ho played as above next Saturday. Since Temuka took the Cup from AVaimatc on 10th December, they have successfully held it against Geraldine, Timaru, and lvia Toa, but there is a. big chance that they will lose it in the coming match. West End are a hot proposition, nnd although a club playing on its own green lias ,an advantage, it is probable thnt West End will extend Temuka to the limit on Saturday. The Timaru Club has arranged a rink competition for Saturday afternoon next: a progressive doubles for all day Saturday, April 3rd; and a drawing, trailing, driving, and guarding competition for April 6th and following four days. The green will be closed for the season on April 10th. The Temuka green, according to present arrangements, will be closed down on April Bth. The e'eetric light tournament at the Park is still in progress, but will, I understand, be completed this week. Ashbury ' gala was a great success on Saturday, and great credit is duo to the ladies and officials who controlled the day’s activities. The financial result was very satisfactory, the club benefiting to the extent of about £9O.

CHAMPION PATRS. The final of the Champion of Champion pairs, ployed between Temuka, McCalhun and Edwards (s), and West End, Cornwall and Latimer (s), last Saturday on the Park green, was a really good exhibition of bowling, and while one can very heartily congratulate T. Edwards on his win, one can also compliment J. Latimer on the game he played. The leads, W. McCallum and E. Cornwall also deserve a

pat on the back foj- the game each played. In the early part of the game Cornwall played better bowls than AfeCallum, but the latter was soon able, to hold his own, and proved to bo a tough proposition. Latimer scored 4 in the first three heads, Edwards replying with a 3 on the fourth head. Each scored on alternate heads until the tenth, when Temuka were then 1 up. A three on the 11th head to Temuka, and a four on the 12th head to West End,’evened up the score —13 all. On the remaining heads Edwards scored on five, and Latimer on four. During the progress of the game Edwards’ scoro on ten heads was ns follows : —3. 4,2, 1,3, 3,1, 1,1, 1, a total of 20, and Latimer’s score on 11 heads was: —1, j 1,2, 2,2, 1,4, 1,1, 2,1, total 18. The match was a very elosity contested one, and was anybody’s game till the last head was played. It was, as our friend the Captain would say, “A really sterling game.” S.C.B.C. CHAMPIONSHIP RINKS. The above match, also played on the Park green last Saturday, will bo remembered as one of the closest fought during the season, and it was not until the last three heads that West End were able to make any progress against Timaru. The scores on the 7th head were: W.E. 65, T. 58: on the 14th head, W.E. 109, T. 107; and on the 18th head, W.E. 145, T. 141. Very • close scoring inced, but alas for Timaru, the last three heads showed a slump; ' and 15 points wore lost, giving West End a, majority’ of 19. West End over the eight, rinks scored 33-points in the last 3 heads and Timaru , 18 points. Each club had four rink wins. G. Blackham lost to Bradley’ b.v 5 points. At the 9th head Bradley was leading 15-5, avid on the 16th the score was 19-9. Blackham scoring on 4 successive head was aMc to reduce his minority. Latimer (who had just previously played a hard game for over two hours') was beaten by Dr. Ussher by 2 points.. Latimer-led all the wav up to the 15th head, when lie was caught, but he again forged ahead, only to bo beaten bv Dr. Ussher on the last two beads. .T, Dewar had a fairly’ easy win over James, who skipped in place of Anderson, the latter p'aving third. Timaru scored 14. but on five heads only, while AVost, End scored 25 on 16 heads. D. Dewar heat Quercc bv 8 points. The score at the 12th bead was 17-2 in AVost End’s favour, but Quoree battled awav and gradually brought bis score up to I T, bis opponent’s tallv being 22. Cornwall fwbo also had two hours’ hard nlay previously! lost to C. S. Fraser by 7 points. Fraser held the game easily. although Cornwall scored on five of the eight last heads. L. Dewar heat. 19th and 20th heads. Ramnson and Moves had a hard match, the 'attar scoring cn 11 heads and leading 15 to 9 on- the 15th head. -One to Sampson yvas followed by 2-2 for Arrives. Sampson replying with - L 3,3, but not "former-sufficient to,win, fbe final score beint; Sampson 17, Aloves 19. Although S'*mpson pleved a <rood game, the game nlnyed by Aloves is one of the best- ho has played in recent matches,- and his drayving shots were perfect. The Berk ereon was in excellent condition for this time of the year, and plaverl extrorndv yvcll. In addition to holding tho Honours Board for another vear, AVost End arc a'so the first holders of the Leslie gold championship cup. Faster tournaments lmve been arranged at AVnimate. Oamarn. Duendin end Christchurch, and no doubt raanv South Canterbury bowlers will attend.

LADIES’ BOWLING. Since the last note appeared on this •question in these columns, tho champion of champion ladies’ singles has been plaved in Dunedin. Mrs Edwards, St. Hilda, rvho skipped the winning rink in tho recent Tournament, added to her

laurels bv winning t,ho above championship. Mrs Bigbv. N.E. Valiev, was the runnor-uo. A feature, of the match yvas the perfect drayving shots of the winner. DRAWING, TRAILING, ETC.
