The Charlottonburg municipality is introducing long distance steam heating from a central furnace, supplying schools and civic buildings, and also enabling housewives to turn on a tap like gas or water. Berlin is 'adopting the scheme, and installing it in Government offices. Doctors predict that steam heating will eliminate the smoke pall resulting from thousands of chimneys. LONDON, iMaroh 22. Mr Baldwin, Colonel Amery. Lord Balfour, Mr Barnes, Mr Henderson. Mr I,lord George. Lord Jellicoo, Earl Haig and Mr Kipling have signed a publio appeal on behalf of the Alilner Fund, proposing to place a memorial tablet m Westminster Abbey, and establish a scheme for a travelling Research bellow-
ship and mouokivv prizes lor the study of imperial development and social betterment.
