On Saturday a team from the Ashburton Croquet Club paid a visit to Temuka, and played iv .return match with the local club, who just managed .to win by one game. The Temuka tennis courts had quite nn animated appearance on Satiuday afternoon, when the last tournament of Hie season was played The gaum took the form of combined handicap doubles, with sealed 1 handicaps. About. 00 players, diVided into 3 sections, took part, each pair m a section having to play all the other pairs in that section. Hie scores of the winners of sections, viz., 100, 101, and 1 102, showed that the haudieappers had done their work well. It’s laughter convulsed England after the play had been presented at the Royalty Theatre, London, where it ran continuously lor four years. The play has been presented time without number in Australia. and one of the companies to play it was Lion Ilouccieault and Mrs llrotigh. Since then, it lias iield thousands with its powerful laughter. The selection of the east for “Charley's Aunt” will undoubtedly bo a most happy one. Mr McKenzie's long experience as an actor and a director, tit him to bring out all the points of this inimitable production. As Rabs, ho keeps the house in a continual stato of laughter, while Mr litchncr, as Erasselti enacts this role in an inimitable way. The caste also includes H. Simpson and IV". Ward. both actors of high standard. The box plan is on view at McMillan’s. NOTES. The annual meeting' in connection with the Clandeboye Public Hall, will bo held on March 31. The. AVaihi Football Club will bold their annual meeting in A'ietoria Hall, next Saturday evening. The water in the oust side, of the borough will be cut off to-morrow from 9 n.m. until 11. a.m. The business places in the town will close at 11 a.in. on Ihuisday lor the Winchester Show. The Temuka Football Club will bod their annual meeting m the Eire Eli; gado rooms on Wednesday, at 8 p.m.
