Tho Sydney branch of the Seameu’a Union has decided to oppose the application of Mr WnlSir ior the re-registra-tion of the Union. A feud between the Sydney and Melbourne branches of the Federated Seamen’s Unions is being waged with great bitterness. Officials of the Sydney branch are in open revolt against the action of tho Federal officers in applying for reregistration. Mr Johnson, assistant secretary of the New South Wales branch, has gone to Melbourne for the purpose of combatting the move. COASTAL TROUBLE IN AUSTRALIA. EFFORTS TO PROMOTE SETTLEMENT. The Disputes Committee of the Trades Hall conferred with the coastal shipowners, in an endeavour to arrive at a. settlement of the coastal shipping strike. The committee adjourned until tomorrow, without arriving at a basis of settlement. The Seamen’s Union was not represented at the conference. DECISION OF SYDNEY BRANCH. PLEBISCITE FAVOURED.
