In tile House-ol Representatives, in reply to a question regarding the Commonwealth Shipping Line, Mr Bruce stated that the chairman of the Shipping Board received a salary ol ±13500 per annum, and two 'other directors £3OOO each. One hundred and filly-nine officers of the Board received £57,797. Mr Bruce said it was not possible for tlio Government lo undertake an investigation of the position with regard to overhead charges with a view of putting the line on a paying basis, as control of the line was vested in the Commonwealth Shipping Board, which was entirely respensib <. for administration. The line comprises 16 vessels.
