The housing shortage necessitated tho eviction of a mother and daughter from rooms at Montmartre by means of tear gas. The landlord wanted the rooms for his own son. Tho woman pleaded that her daughter was born in the flat and that it was impossible to find shelter elsewhere. As they continued to ignore the law, the police were called in and gas was poured into the room, until the women were compelled to open the door, Tears streaming from their faces.
