VOL AIRE LOSES ON FOUL. GRIFFITHS BEATS LEWIS. t By Telegraph—Press Association DUNEDIN*, March 18. The professional contest between Reg. Trowcrn, of Auckland (10.1) and Eugene Volairo (10.42) was decided at His Majesty’s Theatre this evening. Troweru proved himself one of the most vigorous and tireless fighters ever seen in Dunedin, and during the eleven rounds over which the bout went, Volnire, who appeared to be somewhat out of condition, had to take some very severe punishment. At the end of tho second round Trowcrn doubled up from a. blow which appeared to be lew, and fell against the ropes. The gong then went. ' Half-way through the 11th round Trowcrn again doubled up from a blow and the referee (Mu Don Paterson) called: “That’ll do!’’ led Trowern to his coiner, and held up his arm as the winner. Tha action of the leferee was greeted with l a storm of booing, and Volairo, whose blow there' was no question liad been accidentally delivered, was greeted with loud 'cheers. Volume's chance of then winning, however, was only by tile knock-out route, and lie did not seem to have much chance of thus achieving victory. , Tn the preliminary bout, T. Griffiths (3.6*) was matched against A. Lewis, ck-fea flier weigh t champion of Queensland (9.6). Griffiths, by very clever footwork, generally managed to evade the strong attacks of Lewis, and scored repeatedly with his very useful left hand. Towards the end of the fight Griffiths came in and mixed it with In's opponent, and won well, with a very long margin of points.
