NAPIER CLUB FINED FOR UNLAWFUL SALES.

NAIPEII, May IS. As a sequel to a pokoe raid on the Napier and Hastings Bowling Clubs at Easter, Edward Beecliam (Napier Club), John Pearce Smith (Port Club), and P. Maurice Carr (St. Leonard s Club), appeared at the Magistrate’s Court to-day to answer charges of selling liquor without licenses. Evidence showed that the Napier Club hfid purchased 70 gallons of whisky and 415 gallons of beer in about six months. Jn this club constables tendered money and received change; in the others they were invited to put contributions in a box. Tho Magistrate held that there had been an unlicensed sale, and in each ease lines of £lO were imposed, and tho liquor ordered to bo forfeited.
