WAIMATE.
(From Our Own Correspondent)'. . HUNT CLUB. A meeting of the committee of tho Waimate district Hunt was held on Saturday night. Present: —Messrs A. Medlicott (in the chair), J. S. Manchester, E. B. Fraser, E. C. d’Auvergne, R. Frost,. E. B. Harrison, Reg. Harrison, J. M. Rattray, "R. R. G. Rattray, R. Rickman, and R. A. Richards. Mr F. Goddes advised that lie would be unable to act as one of the selectors of tho course for the point-to-point r.aees. —It was-decided to leave the selection in the hands of Messrs T. Twomcy, G. S. McLachlau, and R. A. Richards. Thursday, June 25, was fixed for tho date of the point-to-point races. The Waimate Racing Club wrote granting the Hunt the use of -the racecourse for the steeplechaso meeting on 23rd July. An inquiry for hounds was received from tho Murihiku Hunt Club. —It

The Racing Club had received j tho sub-committee favourably', but I wanted a concrete proposal placed ■ before them for consideration. | After p, lengthy discussion on the | subject, it was decided that tho sub- ) committee meet tbe Racing Club again I on 27th Mav for further discussion. 'Phe following new. members were elected Miss R. Hertslott, and Messrs J. C. Medlicott, S. Barr, and T. S. Mitchell. ’ Accounts amounting to £5 3s 8d wore passed for payment.
THE AMBULANCE. - * , As was reported last week, it is the intention of. the 'Waimate Ambulance Association, to take their van off the road :at the end of this ihonth unless public support, financial and otherwise, is forthcoming. The matter is at present occupying the attention of the Mayor (Mr G. Dash), who stated yesterday that strenuous efforts would bo made to prevent such a, fatal’mistake. It is understood that some definite scheme for the retention of the van will be available for publication shortly. PERSONAL. Mr W. I. Shrimpton, an ex-pupil of the Waimate District High School, was on Friday admitted'to tho degree of Bachelor‘of Arts in the University of New Zealand. MISSING ROY RETURNS. The fourtCen-year-old boy, wild was reported missing from his home, put in an appearance 1 on Saturday. J ~~ MEMORIAL SERVICES. ST. AUGUSTINE’S. A memorial service for the late Prime Minister was held at St. Augustine’s Church on Sunday morning'. Canon Cocks took his text from tiro seventh verso of the third chapter of tho Book of Wisdom. “In the tune of thou- visitation they shall sliilio pikl run to and fro like sparks among the stubble.” Included in tho hymhS were: “Brief Life is Here Our Portion,” and “Now the Labourer’s Task is O’er,” while Canon Cocks, in Ins address, spoke of the great life and work of the late Premier.
KNOX PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH. At Knox Presbyterian Church Rev. J. D. Wilson referred to the life of Joseph, in the Old Testament, as possessing many points of a similar nature to that of the late Prime Minister, whose epitaph, lio said, might fittingly be: —“Here iies one who ever strove to fear his God, find serve his fellow men.”
