In a speech, Sir William JoynsonHicks (Secretary of State for Home Affairs) alluded to the Bolshevist menace. He said: “Wo are willing to Jet the other countries of the world live, but wo will not allow them to interfere with our Constitution. We are bound to take notice of the Communistic movement, controlled by Moscow, and we shall arm ourselves with power effectively to deal therewith. We do not intend that this country should degenerate into a Communist republic. We will have to see that the necessary steps are taken to deal with this great menace front the East and Russia. We are tired of the influx of men to this country who art coming here to embitter class hatred and destroy our Constitution.”
