HOSPITAL AFFAIRS

To the Editor of the “Timaru Herald” . Sir, —1 have rend with interest the various epistles dealing with Hospital aflairs, and it appears to me that “where there is smoke there is fire.” I certainly think that where criticism can be supported by facts, it will do no harm. My own opinion is regard to the maternity fees question, is that if the Chairman of the Board had to rear a family, of four or five' children and pay house rent out of a weekly wago of between £4 and £5, he might bo more sympathetic and understanding. Mr Leslie and “Ratepayer” have made more or less serious allegations against the Hospital Board, and more particularly against its Chairman. The public are naturally interested in these matters, and ,1, for one, would like to hear the other side of the question. Will Mr Potts have the courtesy to give it? The letter of “Observer” in reply to the critics -will not silence the criticism, and rather suggests a ruffled little bantam getting up on a wall to crow defiance. I think there are more than “an interested few” dissatisfied with things, especially since the revelations which have been made during the past week or so. If Mr Potts is able to silence his critics, it is time he did so.—l am. etc.. ONLOOKER
