MAGISTRATE’S COURT.

TIMARU, MAY 14. (Before "Mr E. D. Mosley, S.M.) Ia view of instructions received from Wellington, the Magistrate adjourned all cases in which the persons involved did not come from a distance. DRIVING IN A DANGEROUS . MANNER. A. W. Price pleaded guilty to five charges of driving a motor qar in a manner dangerous to the public. Constable Maggin, Waimataitai, gave ovidence as to having seen defendant driving at high speed, and to having been told by defendant that his car was capable of attaining a speed of 75 miles per hour. Sergeant Peterson said he had seen defendant driving along North Street at a speed estimated ,nt 35 mites per hour. At that time a man was astride the bonnet of the car, and was waving his arms ,as though under the influence of liquor. Ilis Worship said the case was a serious one, and that defendant’s license would have to be taken from him.

On the first charge defendant was convicted and fined £5, and costs; his license to be suspended for twelve months. On the second he was ordered to pay costs; on the third was convicted and fined £5 and costs. The other two charges were dismissed. ON LICENSED PREMISES. Walter Henry Ford pleaded not guilty to a charge of being on licensed premises after hours, to wit, the Pleasant Point Hotel. Senior Sergeant Fahoy said Constable Pernislcie had found defendant on the premises of the Pleasant Point Hotel after hours, ,and knew that defendant was not a boarder there, as lie was camped about a mile from Pleasant Point. Constable Perniskie gave corroborative evidence. Defendant said that when seen on the premises by the constable he was spending the night at the hotel. Had the Constable thought to look at the hotel register he would have seen his name.

As the evidence w.as not sufficient to warrant a conviction, the case was dismissed.
