SCHOOL COMMITTEES

TIMARU MAIN,

The monthly meeting of the Timaru Main School Committee was held last evening, the chairman (Mr F. E. Mal-colm.-on) presiding over the following members —Airs J. C. Butcher, Messrs H. E. Patehett, J. M. Thomson, A. Carnegie, J. C.. Butcher, A. E. lzzard, and A. F. Boys' - (him. 1 secretary). The chairman welcomed Messrs Thomson, Carnegie, and Patehett to the committee.

Tho headmaster (Mr B. H. Low) reported that th© school had assembled on April 28, 490 children being present. By Fridcv the attendance was 526, and it reached 543 last week, out of a total of 563 on the roll. Tho school closed last December, with a roll of 314 boys and 314 girls, so that a very considerable diminution of numbers had occurred in spite of about 50 admisisons. A short address was given by Mr Malcolmson, and a few words were spoken by the headmaster in reference to the. life and great career of the late Premier,-the Hon. AY. F.,Massey. The head teacher wrote asking the 1 Committee to grant, certain sports I material. —It was decided to comply ■ with the request. Referring to the question of purchasing a gramophone, Air Boys said that special records authorised by the .‘Education Department were to be used, | and suggested that the Committee write to the Board for particulars. Mr Preen thought that the Board should provide a gramophone as well as records.
