WAIMATE.

(From Our Own Correspondent)], THE LATE PREMIER. A memorial service will be held in Seddon Squaro to-morrow afternoon, at a time synchronising with the Prime Minister’s" funeral. The arrangements are dn tho hands of the Ministers’ Association. ■ RUGBY SUB-UNION. A general meeting of the Waimato Rugby Sub-Union was held on Monday nignt, tho president (Mr W. D. Paterson) presiding over a good attendance. It was agreed to grant schools who were applying for footballs, 10s towards the cost, Mr L. J. Smith, referee in the Huimai-Southern senior game, wrote reporting R. Deacon (Huimai) and G. Stewart (Southern) for scuffling on the field, and A. Stewart (Southern) for using insulting language after tho match. Tho lattor had since written to the referee apologising for his conduct.

The Sub-Union did not take a serious view of the former occurrence, and the two players were let off with a caution. A. Stewart was brought before the meeting and severely reprimanded by tho chairman, who gave him to understand that tho Union would on- no account tolerate such conduct. In view of Stewart’s apology _ and subsequent penitence it was decided to take no further action. ; A discussion took place regarding the rule relating to the residential qualifications of players, and it was decided to strictly enforce all rules in future.

A deputation from the Referees’ Association, consisting of Messrs T. K. Parry (president), L. J. Smith, and «T. Mcnzicr;, waited on the Sub-Union, and asked the acceptance of a bell to be rung at half-time and no-side. The deputation also asked that proper flags be provided for the touch judges, and that a number of copies of tho rules of Rugby be obtained. The chairman returned thanks for the gift, and promised to have the other matters attended to. On behalf of the Marist Club, Rev. Father Knight handed over to Mr R. Eddy (delegate from the Northern Club), a tidy turn, wheih had' been collected from among members of his club, towards the expenses of Mr C. Chamberlain, who w.os injured in the Marist-Novthem match. Mr Eddy thanked the Marist Club for .their generosity and good fellowship. Tho Ground Committee reported that the new ground had been graded, and would be fit to play next week. Rev. Father Knight stated that the Marist junior B. team wished to withdraw from the competition.—Agreed to. It was agreed to donate .£l. Is to Sh.pTohhArhbulance. ‘

WILLOWBRIDGE. The usual weekly shoot of the Wiilowbridge Miniature Rifle Club was hold on Monday night. The following were the highest scoresH. Hayman 70, S. J. Richmond 69, J. Hollamby 68, E. Webster 68, F. Simpson 68, C. Bennett 67, A. Hawke 67, E. Hays 66, IC. Hollamby 66, R. Forsyth 66, R. Hayman 66. Tho Duncan Button was won by H. Hayman. STUDHOLME. There'was a large attendance at the first euchre party of the season last Friday night. Mrs Rollinson now the ladies’ prize and Mr G. Sides jimr. the gents’ prize. Consolation prizes went to Mesdames P. Hunter and R. Anderson, and Messrs W. Lindsay and A. Eddington. After supper dancing was held to music supplied by Mr A. Bortliwick. BENEVOLENT SOCIETY. At the monthly meeting of the Ladies’ Benevolent Society, Mrs G. A. Manchester presided. Seven requests for assistance were received and granted. Mesdames Adams and Studholme were appointed visitors for the month.
