The duties were practical
measures for raising revenue, without injury to tno industries, 'ihe Budget consisted of a scries cl balaucos, the sdk tax payiug lor the remissions on earned income. The execution of picages to the Dominions in regard to imperial preference, would cost L1,499,UU9 or Ri0,999,999. The McKenna duties this year v.uula just pay lor this. Next joar tbej would pay for these remissions and an additional million whicn the Government was going to foster the Imperial trade with Britain. The Labour amendments were defeated, and the report stage on tho McKenna duties completed.
