TIMARU PUBLICITY ASSOCIATION.
PROPOSAL TO AMALGAMATE WITH CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.
A special meeting of the Timaru Publicity Association was held on Wednesday to consider a proposal to amalgamate with the South Canterbury Chamber of Commerce. Mr P. B. Foote presided over a small attendance. Mr J. Loggott said that the Chamber of Commorco had given much consideration to the question of advertising Timaru, but until tho Timaru Publicity Association had taken the matter in hand no active steps had been taken. However, the Chamber was working along the line as the Publicity Association. The chief consideration as l'ar as Timaru was concerned was the accommodation for visitors. Tho Chamber had .also discussed a proposal for advertising South Canterbury by moans of a booklet at tho Dunedin Exhibition.
Letters were read from tho Mayor (Mr G. J. Wallace), and tho president of tho Association (Mr IT. Williams) advocating tho amalgamation of tho Publicity Association and tho Chamber of Commerce, if it could bo done without the loss of identity of the former bodv.
Tho chairman agreed with tho Mayor’s proposal that tho Chamber of Commerce should bo a parent body. In fact, it might ho to the benefit of the Chamber to look even further ahead, and become the pai-ent of several bodies, while allowing them to retain their own identity. Mr H. Scott outlined the work being dono by tho Timaru Publicity Association.
After further discussion, it wns decided that a committee, consisting of the flavor. Messrs H. Williams, 0. G. Baker, and R. S. Niool should wait upon the Chamber to further discuss tho question of amalgamation.
