He was bred by Mr Ballance, of Wanganui, and was sold before the race to Mr i)'Brifen, [owner of Tambo'urini, for £300 Jockey Club Handicap, 100 sovs, mile and-a-half. -'There were ten entries, but Yoltaire, Rangi,. and Tambourini were, scratched. Parawhenua soon took the lead from the start, with Bemnant second, Guy Fawkes third, Ngari fourth, and Princess Mary last, • This order waskept up with little alteration until nearing the straight run home, when Princess Mary changed her position from last to third, two lengths behind Parawhenua and one behind Bemnant. Parawhenua increased the lead by another length; liemnant second; Princess Mary third. Time: 2miu49secs. .Consolation Handicap j SOsovs j once round. Acceptances: True Blue, Bsfc 21b; Bemnant, 7st 91b; Ngaro, 7st 81b; Phoenix, 7st 51b; Princess Mary, sst 21b. Won by True Blue by two lengths. Piiconix and tfgaro were within a half a lentb of eich other. Time: 2min ssec. The Hack Race was given to Dick Turpin; not worth a second. Much dissatisfaction was felt at the various heavy charges for privileges of the course.
