RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT. -Yesterday.
(Before Dr. Kilgoto, j. P., and E. VI. Pocket Esq., J.P.) ' Pbter Jick v. Thomas Ashton.— Claim £2 16s, for rent; 16s 6d had been paid into Court, and a set-off was filed.— Mr Macdonald, for the plaintiff, stated that the amount paid into Court was accepted in satisfaction of the debt.
Geobgs Wilson v. J. Chapman.— Claim £5 7s 6d, for work done.— Judgment for the, plaintiff for the amount claimed, and costs. J. ]Noi)'dkb v. if. B. Packh'aed.—this was a claim for £9, for money lent, &'c.— ' Defendant disputed "the. 60 per cent, interest I, which was claimed.—Mr Mac* donald, for plaintiff, stated that Mr dodder had only been surety for de-.. feridant to another party, and had to pay the interest. It appeared that £10 had been borrowed at an interest of 10s per months Plaintiff deposed that Mr Packhard came and asked him for the loan of £10, at the same time saying that one of his tenants owed £1210s". Witness said • he had not the money, but afterwards he j succeeded in negotiaiing, the loan for him at 10s per month interest. Defendant was away for six months, during which wit- 'f
ness paid the interest. Witness then lent him £5 towards paying the principal,' in order to 1 keep down the interest. Witness paid the interest, for which, he charged.— Defendant wasexamined. 'He had the £10. He agreed to pay the interest of 10s per month.'—judgment.' was given for plaimiff for the amount claimed, and£24scoats.' , Case adjourned.'—Owen Griffiths v. J. 0, Akers, claim £10 7s 9J, for cartage. —Mr Brassey asked to have the case ad: journed for a week, with a view to ; a settlement, — The adjournment was granted. -
