WAIOTAHI DISTRICT BOARD.
/PPEHB AGAINST ASSESSMENT.—TIIO Waiotahi Highway Board met at the School-room, Waiotahi, yesterday alternoon, for the purpose of hearing and deciding upon objections to the assessment. The whole of the members were present. There were only three appellants. Mr T. Hawden objected to valuation on his house, but the Board refused to make a reduction. Mr T. Dudley also appealed on the ground that his valuation was too high. In this case the Board also refused to make any reduction. Mr A. Brodio, manager of tlie Shamrock battery, objected to the valuation of £702 per aunum at which that battery was assessed. The matter was argued at considerable length, but the Board finally refused to make any niduction.
Tbbe Planting.—The Board then proceeded to transact their regular business.—The Secretary read a let' er frein Mr McLaren, District Engineer, stating that the grant of tho Provincial Government towards planting trees in tho Waiotahi District would, on account of the unsuitability of tho present advanced seasou, bo available in June, next year. Public Health Acr.—A letter was read from tho Board of Health, notifying that certain clauses (from 28 to 45) of the Public Health Act wcro brought into force in tho Waiotahi District. Tho letter was read and received. The Eefobji Leaoue.—A letter was read from Mr Ewington, Secretary of the Keform League, asking the Board to eslablish a branch of tho League, and affiliate with the Auckland branchos, in order to aidj in abolishing tho present system of Provincial Government, &c. I he Board declined to accede to tho request, expressing themselves perfectly >atis(ied with their present relations with the' Provincial Government.—[Vv o should think the Waiotahi Board have good reason to be satisfied —Ed.]
Collaubohb Cheek Hoad.- Tho Foreman ol Works reported that the Uollurbone Creek road had been made up as far as Mr Mason's house, and that Mr Ingles, tho contractor, was proceeding with the work of forming tho road from Ibe Moanataiari Greek to the .Eureka ilill.—Thq Board resolved, after kiuw cQ«,v(jrsa.Uo«, to continue the CollarliQUQ
road from Mason's corner across the Waiotahi Spur and connect with the Eureka road, and the Secretary was instructed to call for tenders for the performance of the work.
MoANATAiiiii lioAD.—ln reference to tho Moanatainri road a letter was received from Mr K. McDonald b'cott, manager of the Golden Calf G.MO., acknowledging the receipt of a letter from the B-ard intimating their intention of continuing that road p'ast tho Golden Calf hoppers.—lt was resolved by the Board, as there appeared to be indications of opposition, to cmt-ulfc with Mr McLaren before calling for tenders for the performance of the work. Waiotahi Road.—Mr MoPnrland laid on the table plans and sections of the tNo. 3 section of the Waiotahi roa l as far as the JScw Caledonian hopper. The plans were received, and 'tho consideration of the matter was postponed until next meeting. "
