(Per Anglo-Australian Telegraph Press Agency.) Auckland, Wednesday, 7.45 p.m. The delay in the arrival of the s.s. 'Hero' is unaccountable. Mr Walter Sully, who came by the 'Mikado,' states that the day he left Sydney the < Hero' was telegraphed off Wilson's Promontory, having left Melbourne for Sydney at 2 o'clock on Monday.-Tbe Star's London correspondent gives publicity to a report current in England, that, Mr Thomas Eussell succeeds Dr Featberston as Agent-General. — Thome's bankruptcy case was continued in the Supreme Court to-day, the cross-examina-tion proceeded with a view of showing that the bankrupt gave a fraudulent preference in favour of his father. The case was not concluded.—John Giles, a recent arrival, working on the Kaipara railway, is missing.. He left his mates to wash a shirt in the creek, and has not since been seen.-A rifle match between Auckland No. 3 Company v. the Wellington battery of Artillery, resulted in Auckland scoring 400 points, and Wellington 388 Sharemarket:-Buyers: Thames, 20i; Bright Smile, 453; Cure, 7s 6d; Golden Caif (new issue), 10s 6d; Bismarck, 6s; Tokatea, 9s 3d; Queen of the Thames, 3s 6d; Yanguard, 2s 3d. (feom a cobbespondent.) A deputation, consisting of Messrs W. Eowe and W. Payne, accompanied by his Honor the Superintendent and Mr J. Sheehan, waited upon the Hon. Dr. Pollen and Sir Donald McLean to-day, in reference to the proposed special settlement on the Upper Thames. The objects of the visit were, fully explained, and the interview was of the most satisfactory character, both ministers promising to assist to the utmost of their power. .The Superintendent and Mr Sheehan warmly advocated the interests of the Thames people, and expressed themselves favourable. to the proposed settlement; and no doubt it will soon be an accomplished fact. ~ (FEOM OrJB OWN COBBESPONDENT.) Cobomandel, Wednesday, 7.30 p.m. The Bismarck lode in the Tan level has increased. It is close upon two feet, and looks first rate. A small parcel of rich specimens was obtained.—The Tokatea are getting gold daily. They are crushing about 200lbs of specimens and picked Stone for the fortnight.
