The Agricultural Show is not considered a success in point of entries, but was attendod by thousands of people, as also was the opening ot the Ellerslio Gardens by Caledonian games. Tho railway was crowded all day. The industry department of the show was particularly meagre. 'I ho sheep were very good.—A cricket match England v. the World resulted in a victory for the latter with 28 runs. — The Caledonian games resulted as follows : —Flat race, 200 yards • Malone, 1; Tauner, 2. Throwing heavy hammerMcLean, 1, 87 feet; Stirling, 2. highland fling -McLennan, 1; Whytelaw, 2. Plat race, 100 yards-O'Haire; Heavy stone—Stirling, 1, 29 feet 8 inches; McLean, 2. Half-mile handicap-Sewell, 1; Cusscn, 2. Keel of Tulloch —McLean, 1. Tossing the caber-McLean. Hop step and jump-Bradley, 28 feet 11 inches. 200 yards race—Malone, 1. Putting light stone—McLean. Sword dance— Whytelaw. Yoluuteer race—Whytelaw. Throwing the light hammer—McLean, 99 feet 8 inches. Tat/banqa, Monday, 9.47 a.m. Mr .Holloway, accompanied by Mr Warbrick, returned after a hurried visit to the lake via Maketu late on Saturday night, nfter examining minutely every place of interest. He describes them as the wonders of the world, Whilst at Maketu, with Mr John C. Young, he visited the blocks of land recently purchased by Commissioners, called Te Puke, and Hangiuru. He pronounces them of first-class quality and every way adapted for special settleuimt.
