CORRESPONDENCE.
VOLUNTEER PAItA'DES. To the Editor of the Tiiamkh AiivuiiTlSßlt, Sib,—ln one or two of your lute issues you impute want of interest mid oversight to Major Cooper, as olllcer commanding the district, in not calling out the Volunteers on the Prince of Wales' Birthday. You are wrong in this. The Major was exceedingly anxious, as he is on every holiday, for an out-door parade, and it was only when he saw the impossibility of a good attendance that he withdrew his order. The absence of a review was due -first, to the day not being a general holiday with the miners; second, two of the companies liad not their uniforms ready, and two more were wailing additional supplies of rifles from Auckland Armoury. I may point out to you that even Auckland, with twice our number of Volunteer companies, and with a holiday general with all classes, could not get up a review. I have no hesitation in saying that no district officer in New Zealand can lake more interest in the success and welfare of his dislriet than Major Cooper; and'as a few weeks will put our force on an outside footing, I have no doubt whatever that when we parade with tho colonial representatives in January, our Thames friends will find that wo shall do credit to Major Cooper and to them.—l am, &c, 0. vV.
