THAMES MINERS' ACCIDENT

BELIEF FOND. The half-yearly meeting of the subscribers to the above fund was held laat evening at the Governor Bowen Hotel, but there was only a moderate attendance. Captain Fraser, 8.M., president of the association, occupied the chair. The minutes of the previous meeting was read aud confirmed, after which the report and balance-sheet were read as follows " The subscribers of the Thames Miners' Accident Belief Fund. Gentlemen,—We beg to submit to you the following report of tlie affairs of the above fund for the half year ending October 19,1874 "We have paid to subscribers durinj> the past six months the sum of £223 6s Bd, exceeding the amount paid the previous half year by £94105. We have also paid to Mrs McAuliffe, whose husband was killed in the Central Italy mine, aud Mrs Trautmann, whose husband was killed in the Crown Prince mine, the sum of £12 10s each. You will see by the statement of receipts and expenditure that £14 3s 6d has been paid for printing aud £34 to the secretary; but both these amounts, within a pound or so, were due at the last half-yearly balance, so that the working expenses of the fund have not increased in any way. The number of applications for relief during the past six months has been 30, exceeding by far the number of applications received during any previous half year since the Fund started. We would urge the subscribers to keep tlieir subscriptions paid up, as there have been several men who have met with accidents but have been unable to obtain relief from the Fund owing to their subscriptions being in arrear. We take the opportunity of thanking Mr Anthony for the use of his room at the Governor Bowen Hotel, Messrs Power and Chapman for their kindness in auditiug the accounts, and Dr Lethbridge for his valuable services as honorary surgeon to the Fund.—We are, &c. Liabilities -To amounts owing subscribers, £5; secretary's salary due, £9; balance of assets oi our liabilities, £48 8s sd—£62 Bssd.' Assets—By balance at bank, £62 0s sd; cash in hand, Bs—£62 8s 5J.-Fbed. F. DiY, Secretary; T. L. Mueeay, Hon. Treasurer." They were unanimously adopted. Mr Syvbet, a subscriber to the fund, asked for information on several points, which was satisfactorily accorded by the Chairman. He concluded by proposing a hearty vote of thanks to the committee, which was agreed to. The Ohjliman, in conveying the vote of thanks, said the gentlemen of the committee deserved great credit for the attention which they had paid to the business of the fund, and for the regularity with which they attended its meetings. A vote of thanks to the Chairman terminated the proceedings.
