POLICE COUET.-Yksterday. (Beforo E.W. Pucicn', Esq., J.P., and Dr. PersTON, J.l>.) Breach of Municipal By-iaws.— John McCurdy was charged with a breach of By-law No. 1 of the Borough Council, by allowing a goat and two kids to wander in Baillie-street, Shortland.— Defendant admitted the offence, and was fined 2s Gd and costs.—Jacob Jung was charged with allowing a pig to wander at Tararu on unenclosed land.—Mr Dodd, for defendant, pleaded not guilty. The section of the by-law was put in evidence, and, as defendant's counsel would admit nothing, all the Gazettes bearing on the case were put in evidence.—John Brooks Mason, Inspector under the Public Healths Act, deposed that on the 2nd iustant he saw a pig wandering near Mr Jung's house on unenclosed land within the Borough of Thames. There was no person in charge of the pig. A man came out to drive the pig into Mr Jung's premises, and ho said it was Mr Jung's.— At this stage the man in question, who was in Court, left, after conversing with Mr Dodd.—Mr Bullen said the man was noii summoned, and he could not go after him. If he would not give his evidence, he_ would have to ask to have the case adjourned. He did not expect to have to prove the ownership of the pig.—The Court was about to adjourn the case when i Mr Dodd said they could go on with the ease.—The witness produced his authority under the seal of the Borough.—Mr Dodd theu admitted the ownership of the pig. He said it had only just got out, and was immediately taken back.—He was fined Is and costs.
