MB. ADLAM AND THE PIAKO.
To tlio Editor of the Thames Advertiser. Sib,-la reply to ill- Adlam I desiro to state that on the night in question, about half-past 11, he told 'me that he had given four natives tickets for a passage in my launch, for which he had charged them 10s each. I answered " all right," concluding he had made arrangements with Mr Ticklepeuuy, but it subsequently transpires Mr Adlam had done nothing of the sort, though I have every reason to believe he was aware that gentleman had chartered the 'JBuona Ventura' for the trip. I make this assertion because he offered Mr Adlam a passage, who not being able to go accepted the passage on behalf of Mr Tizard, who declined the passage. Seeing no chance of bouncing Mr/licklepenny into taking the natives, Mr Adlam remarked, " I think this is the last trip the steamer will make up tho Piako," o).' words to that effect, and before M.r Tizard and the natives left in their boat ho also cautioned mo that if I did not pass Kerepehi before he and the natives arrived my launch would most likely be stopped. lam not therefore surprised that Mr Adlam should either directly or indirectly be connected with the letter which immediately afterwards appeared in your columns, and which carried out the threat he himself had uttered. I may also state that Air Adlam had no authority to charge the natives 10s each, as my fare to To Au o Waikato is £1. Mr Morrin's telegram to. me respecting native passages i received just one week after the occurrence which has given riso to this correspondence, I may say in conclusion that Mr Adlam in my opinion shirks the main features of the question, and does not satisfactorily dispose of either " W\U." or "J. 8."—1 am, &c, IS. H. BtfBNINGHAU. Steam-launch' La-Buona Ventura.'
