THAMES BOROUGH COUNCIL.
A meeting of the members of the Borough Council was held at the offices last evening -present, Dr. Kilgour, Messrs Anthony, Wilson, Brown, Butt, Ehrenfried. In the absence ot the Mayor, Dr. Kilgour was called on to preside. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed.
Business of Council. -On the minutes being read, comprising the confirmation of by-laws, Councillor Butt suggested that nothing but the business absolutely necessary should be gone into, seeing that before next meeting an election affecting three of the seats would have takeu place. —After some conversation, it was agreed to confirm tho minutes, but not to enter into any new business.
Cembteby Road,—A letter was read from the Parawai District Board calling attention to the state of the road, to the cemetery, which tha letter stated was in an almost impassable state, and urging upon the Council to take immediate steps to obtain the £500 voted by the Provincial Council for the road.—ln answer to Mr Brown, the Town Clerk staled that he had not received any answer to a former' application.—lt was agreed, on the motion of Mr-Brown, seconded by Mr Anthony, that application should be made again to the Superintendent. League of Boeoughs.—A letter was read from the Town Clerk of the Wellington City Council declining to form a league for the purpose of endeavouring to obtain license fees wilhin the borough, owing to the fate of the petition from Christchurch. Letters were also raid from various Municipalities in Otago stating that there the Municipalities in that province got all the. licenses, &c., collected within the. borough on condition of keeping the main roads passing through the boroughs in repair. Waio-Kaeaka -Koad,—Mr Anthony said he would propose that tenders be j called for the formation of tlig WaioKaraka iioad, and then the companies interested should be informed that the Council would give £300, and the companies would bo required to make up the balance.—lt was agreed that the Council should call for tenders for the work so soon as the companies interested guaranteed the cost above £300, the total cost of the work being' about £750.-Mr Brown suggested that the companies shou d be asked to come to some understanding among themselves. Keeosenei Testing,-! letter was read from Mr Bullen, giving the results of the tests of kerosene belonging to Mr Short and Mr Onyon. Waxes Kace j?eou Boundaiiy Cheek, -A report was read from the Engineer respecting the proposed water race between the Boundary Creek and the Imperial Crown battery. The report suggested that the pipes should be sunk deeper than 15 inches as proposed.—Mr Brown said that if the scheme woro carried out, it would take the water from the inhabitants of the Boundary Creek in the summer time. —The Clerk read one of tho conditions imposed by tho Warden, that sufficient water bo left in the creek for tho use of tho residents.—lt was agreed to refer the matter to tho Works Committee to report upon next weok. Fibe Bbigidks.—A. report was road from the committee appointed, to confer with the fire brigades,—Various accounts in connection with - the lire brigades, which had been examined by the committee, were ordered to be paid. Culvert at Gbey-stbebt.—The Engineer reported that a now oulvort should
be laid down at the corner of Pollenstreet and Grey-street. —Mr Brown seconded by Mr Wilson, moved that no new expenditure be incurred at this meeting.—Mr Ehrenfried, seconded by Mr Butt, moved that tenders bo called for — The amendment was carried. Kerosene Store. -tA report was road as to a site for a kerosene store. The committee recommended that the Beach Boad be laid off at 100 feet wide, arid that an application should be mado to the Provincial Government for a half an acre for a site for a kerosene store at the southern side of lUchraond-stroet. It was agreed that consideration of the report should stand over till next meeting. Accounts.—A report from tho Finance Committee was read, recommending for payment a number of accounts amounting to £41414s lOd, for the month.—On the motion of Mr Ehrenfried, it was agreed that the accounts should be paid. Kbpobtof b'oBEJUN of Wohks.— The monthly report of the Foreman of Works was ;read.—The Chairman said that the Council had to thank Mr Ehrenfried for having placed a horse at the disposal of the Council.
Teamways Act.—The Town Clerk laid on the table a copy of the Borough of Thames Tramways Act, and was directed to procure additional copies. Business AwounNm--A number of items of business were adjourned till next meeting,
