Telegraph Press Agency.) Auckland, Monday, 6.15 p.m. A deputation, consisting of Mr llowe, Mr Brodie, Mr Errington, Mr Masters, and Mr Canning, accompanied by Mr T. Kussell, waited on the Superintendent to-day, and pointed out the position of the Thames in reference to coal supply. Yarious local matters, especially the foreshore and endowments, were discussed. The Superintendent agreed to take imme diate steps to extend the Grahamstown Goods Wharf about 500 or 600 feet pending a permanent scheme of harbour works. — The Superintendent and Provincial Secretary, accompanied by Mr Holloway, tho delegate of the Agricultural Labourers' Union, proceed to the Thames on Thursday, . when several matters will be arranged.. Mr Howe and Mr Brodie afterwards had a satisfactory jinterview with the Superintendent about highway matters, which also will be further considered during the Thames visit.—The annual meeting of the Long Drive Company waa held at Mr Tothill's office to-day, Captain Daldy in tho chair. The directors' report was adopted. It stated that operations in the mine for the past year had been confined to works above the level of the Euranui Hill funnel. The profits under arrangement with the Imperial Crown Company amounted to £800. In order to work the lower levels with the best possible chance of success efforts would be again made to effect amalgamation with the companies owning the adjacent ground. The mine manager's report stated that during the past year 2,524 tons of quartz had been raised from the upper levels, which produced 3,0490zs 6dwfe3 of gold. The balance-sheet, which was also adopted, showed receipts £2,163 and expenditure £1,053 18s lOd, leaving balance at the Bank of New Zealand of £397. The assets of the company are valued at £4,578, liabilities £132. Mr Browning was re-elected director, and Mr Thomas Macky auditor.—An extraordinary meeting of the shareholders was then held to take into consideration the terms of proposed amalgamation with the All Nations and Junction Companies.—The Chairman explained that there was not a sufficient number of shareholders present to constitute a legal meeting. He thought, however, that an expression of opinion could be given, and with a view to this he would move that the company arnalgamade with the *11 Nations and Junction on the basis of agreement arranged by several boards of directors. —On this being seconded, Mr Eussell moved an amendment that the company amalgamate with the All Nations only.—The amendment was carried by six to two.—Mr Eussell then proposed, and it was carried, "That.the directors be requested, in the event of amalgamation with the All Nations Company, to make application to the D'strict Court to . wind up the Long Drive Company."— This was seconded bj Mr Wood, and carried.—ln reply to Mr Bussell, the Chairman stated that the working of the low levels would .be set about as soon as 1 possible.—At an informal extraordinary meeting of the All Nations Company, held for the same purpose as the Long j Drive, it was moved by Mr Stone, and carried, "That the All Nation Company amalgamate with the Long Drive and Junction Companies, in terms as set forth . in the basis of agreement arranged by the directors."—A resolution, empowering the directors to petition the District Court for a winding ■up order, in the event of amalgamation, was passed. —Three hundred logs have been washed to sea from Daldy's mill. The loss is estimated at £'200.—A speeial JS apier telegram to the Star says that Mr Yogel goes home to negotiate the four million loan, Sir Donald McLean holding the reins of Government as Acting-Premier in the meantime. This was arranged three weeks ago, as the programme if Mr Stafford refused office —The' Hero' was to leave Melbourne for Auckland on the Bth September.—A serious accident has occurred in the Manukau bush. A falling rata tree struck a bushman named Yincent, breaking his arm, and it is feared caused concussion of the brain. The injuries will probably prove fatal.

Important intelligence reached here yesterday re the Cambridge and Taupo road. Captain Turner's party have been forbidden to proceed with the survey, and there is great excitement. Maori notices have been posted, commencing at j Te Niho o te Kiore, on the bridge across the Waikato, and along the intended ]ine, cautioning surveyors. A great meeting of the tribes interested is to be held to-day, at the Hauhau settlement, Te Whetu. Mr John C. Young has left Botorua to be present. Mr Mackay is blamed for not obtaining the consent of the rightful owners before permitting the survey party to proceed.
