FIFTH SESSION OF GOOD TEMPLES.
The fifth session of the Grand Lodge of England is being at present held in, St. George's Hall at Bradford, Mr Joseph Malins, the Grand Worthy Chief Templar of England, presiding, More than 1,000 representatives are present. The report of the Grand Worthy Chief Templar, an elaborate document, gave an account of the operations of the Order daring the past year, and included statistics of meetings held, sermons preached, and the circulation of various publications. Thp report of the secretary, Mr J. W. Kirton, stated that the order had now 3,777 lodges, against 3,100 last year, and increase of 667. The membership on the Ist of May was 210,555, namely 73,756 sisters, and 136,799 brothers; of these 38,716 were full degree members. , 127 degree temples had been instituted during the past year. The annual statement of the accounts showed a balance of assets over liabilities of £3,875 19j 10jd. The report of the committee as to the state of the Order included recommendations to members of the Order to bring pressure on Boards a3 to the money spent on stimulants in workhouses, to visit persons brought before magistrates on charges of drunkenness, and to refrain from purchasing any article from grocers, confectioners, and dealers in Intoxicating drinks. Among the resolutions passed is one recommending the formation of companies for the purpose of buying, leasing, or building temperance hotels in central places in every town, such hotels to be furnished with every convenience to meet the requirements of good society. The chief officers were to be elected about 5 o'clock, and it was fully expected that Mr Joseph Malins would be re-elected G.W.C. Templar of England.
