Arrived: The 'Warwick,' 'Harvest Home,'' Earl of Mar,' from the colonies. August 19. The death of Sir Wm. Faurbury is announced. August 21. Austria and Uussia have assented to recognise the Spanish Government in pursuance of an agreement by the three for common action on all diplomatic questions. ' Discount 3 per cent, August 22. At the wool sales the opening competition is well maintained and prices continue very firm. The corn market has experienced a considerable fall. The weather is now favourable for harvest operations. Dr. Haast, of Canterbury, has received the order of the Iron Cross. August 25. Austria has recognised the Spanish Government, but Eussia now refuses. At the wool sales, competition continues extremely vigorous, and prices show an advance compared with previous sales of one halfpenny to a penny halfpenny. The foreign arrivals of wheat are abundant, and prices have fallen. There were sales of new wheat yesterday. Purchases were mide reluctantly, at a reduction of seven shillings. Pabis, August 18. A Bonaparti'st Deputy has been elected for Calvadore by a large majority. ' SIGNAPOBE, August 20. A rupture is threatened between China and Japan on account of the Formosa Expedition. China is making immense preparations for war.
