SOUTHERN TELEGRAMS.

Welhngton, Saturday.
At the last sitting of the General Synod it was resolved that immediate steps be taken for the better endowment of the Bishoprics of Waiapu and Dunedin. Eegording the celebration of marriage, the Synod could see no good reason for making any formal alteration in the present usuage of the Church. It was resolved that the next ordinary session of the General .Synod should be held at Nelson in 1877. The following assessment is made for the purpose of defraying the printing expenses of the session-.—Auckland, £20; Nelson, £16; Christchurch, £20; Wellington, £20; Waiapu, £7, and Dunedin, £17.—The Times publishes the following telegram from Governor Fergusson's private secretary, dated Auckland:-"I am directed by the Governor to inform you that the paragraph in the Independent of May 29, quoted from the Arqu of May; 11, and stating that his Excellency has started the idea that all correspondence between the. Governments of the several colonies should come direct from'and to the Governors of the colonies, and not through their responsible advisers, has no foundation in fact." Hokihka, Saturday. Mr Haworth's lower- saw-mill was burned down this morning; loss, one thousand pounds; no insurance. Chbistchubch, Saturday. Two shocks of an earthquake occurred at 8 this morning. Lyttelton, Saturday. . Arrived: The' Northampton,' 73 days from London, with 370 souls—placed in quarantine, having the small pox on board. —Two smart shocks of earthquake were felt this morning. TiMAßir, Saturday. A shock of earthquake was felt at 5 a.m.; a second and sharper at 20 minutes to 8, lasting several seconds. The direction was east to west—no daratsfe.
